Violet was born June 1, 1925, in Malcolm, IA, to Harry Tobias and Nellie Photena (Harness) Lamb. She was raised on different farms in the Grinnell area. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1943.

Violet contributed to the war effort during World War II by working at the Office of Price Controls. She also had many other jobs before working for the Ankeny School system where she had worked as a librarian at Northwest Elementary School for many years from which she retired.

She was a founding member of First Church of Christ in Ankeny. She also helped in the early stages of the Grinnell Christian Church and West Side Church of Christ in Des Moines. She was a charter member of the Ankeny Golf and Country Club and a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 42.

Violet and Merrill eloped on January 26, 1946, in Des Moines, IA, and they became Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Seehorn. To this union four children were born: James, Dennis, Steven, and Cathy Jo. In her adult years she enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, having coffee with her friends, reading, traveling with her husband and friends. A great joy in her life was the family apple pie making weekends with her children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren which became well-known in their respective communities. She was devout in her faith and proud of the legacy of faith in her family.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers and sisters; husband Merrill, and son James Seehorn. She is survived by her sister Joyce Laird of Chandler, AZ; her sons Dennis, of Ankeny and Steven (Linda) of Topeka, KS, and daughter Cathy (Danny) Duvall of Florissant, MO; seven granddaughters, Michelle Holtz, Amy Bringhurst, April Wells, Anna Seehorn, Danielle Hewitt, Marcie Duvall, and Anna Duvall; and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends.
