Vernon Loyd Seefried was born July 12, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Anton and Helen (Schneidermann) Seefried. He primarily grew up in Cedar Falls, Iowa and graduated from Cedar Falls High School. A year later he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II from 1943-1946. Following his time in the service, he attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) then took a job with Iowa Public Service Co. in Waterloo. He married Jeanette Brock October 8, 1949. In 1955 he transferred to Eagle Grove where they raised their daughter, Polly. He served as the area manager with IPS until a brief time in Sioux City as an engineer and retired back to Eagle Grove in 1982.
Following retirement, he and Jeanette enjoyed travelling, visiting friends and relatives, tinkering around the house and yard and having morning coffee with "the guys."
Vern was a member of the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed Gospel music, Western movies and a good joke. He had a great sense of humor and loved the sunshine.
Vern passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Vintage Hills Senior Living in Ankeny, Iowa at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette in 2010; parents; four brothers, Louis, William, Edward and Stanley, and their wives; his sister Olive Roskam and her husband; three infant sisters, and his wife's brother and sister, and her husband.
He is survived by his daughter Polly and husband Ron of Ankeny; nine nieces and five nephews, and a sister-in-law.
A memorial service will be Friday, May 31, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove at 2:00 p.m. with visitation with the family beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment of the cremains will be at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.
