James (Kenny) Oftedahl, 98, of Ankeny passed away January 2, 2019.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. prior the service.

Kenny was born July 8, 1920 in Hope, MN to Bertha and Sam Oftedahl. He served his country in the US Army from 1944 to 1947 while being stationed in Europe.

Kenny married Bertha Sinclair Aug. 17, 1947at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They lived in Albert Lea, MN until they moved to Ankeny in 1967. He was employed 33 years with the Rock Island Railroad.

After his retirement, Kenny worked for the City of Ankeny Parks and Rec. dept. caring for the city parks.
He enjoyed traveling and bowling. He played golf until he was 86 years old.

Kenny is survived by his brother Wallace (Barb) Oftedahl; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bert, and a sister, Lorraine Salmela.
