Gary "Jess" Walker, 71, of Ankeny passed away May 2, 2019.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E 1st St). a visitation will be held 5 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 6th, also at the church.

Jess was born July 25, 1947 in Knoxville, Iowa.
He was a graduate of Saydel High School in 1966. Following graduation, he went on to proudly serve his country with the United States Army.

Upon his return from service, he married Susan Fuchs, July 4, 1970. Together, they had one daughter, Crystal.

Jess made a career in drafting, and tool and die work. He retired from Maytag in 2002 where he was a supervisor in tool and die.

He enjoyed classic cars, and the Good Guys auto shows, going to the state fair, being outdoors, and working with his hands in general. Whatever he could make, fix, or build with his hands was natural to him.
He especially enjoyed spending time with his daughter and her family, particularly his two granddaughters.

Jess is survived by his daughter, Crystal (Nick) Smith; 2 granddaughters, Cammi and Brielle; a brother Ralph (Joyce) Vance; a brother-in-law, Jim Simbro; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; his parents; sisters, Jean Johnston and Jane Simbro; brothers, Jim, Fred, and Vern Schnathorst; and friends, Bill and Lois Shea.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Puppy Jake Foundation.
