Police Emblem

Edward "Ed" Earl Hamilton passed away August 6, 2019. He was a loving husband, dad and grandpa and was called home at the age of 59. Ed was born in Ames, Iowa to William Charles Hamilton Sr. and Charlotte Ann (Dowty) Hamilton. He married the love of his life, Jolene (Brafford), his sweetheart since the 7th grade. They raised two daughters, Amy and Angela, and a son, Ethan. Ed graduated from Collins High School and later went on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree from Upper Iowa University. Ed was dedicated to serving and protecting his community through various roles in law enforcement. He retired as a Lieutenant with the Ankeny Police Department in 2015.
As an avid outdoorsman, Ed had an appreciation for nature. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time on his acreage, which was known as "the land". He was also a loyal Cyclone fan and loved cheering for ISU in any sport, but especially football. Of all the things Ed enjoyed, spending time with his grandsons was probably his favorite. He was the best Grandpa anyone could ask for.
Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte. He is survived by his wife Jolene, his three children, Amy (Philip), Angela (Dan) and Ethan, two grandchildren, his father William Charles Hamilton Sr., two brothers Nick (Kelly) and William Jr. (Pam), several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be on Sunday, August 11th, 2019 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm, with prayer service at 5:30 pm. Mass will be at 10:30 am on Monday, August 12th. Luncheon will be at the church after, followed by burial in Collins at Evergreen Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
