Stained Glass Emblem

On June 5, 2019, Daniel A. Olson, 56, of Ankeny died, ending a long struggle and the suffering born of illness.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 10 from 5-7 PM and a Service of Resurrection on Tuesday, June 11th at 10:30 AM, both at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny, Iowa.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of nearly 29 years, Treva (Skeries) Olson; his beloved son, Michael Olson, age 22 ; his brother Timothy (Cynthia); eight nieces and nephews; and his sweet Norwegian Elkhound, Kira. He is also survived by many close friends and colleagues to whom he was a loyal and loving friend.

Dan was born in Glenwood, MN on December 1, 1962 to Vernon (Bud) and Barbara (Bobbie) Olson, who with his younger brother Christopher, preceded him in death. He grew up in Bettendorf, Iowa, where he graduated from high school and attended Scott Community College. Dan is a graduate of Iowa State University.
Most of Dan's working life was spent working in public health. He was a Senior Environmental Specialist for Iowa DNR, in the Wastewater Section where he worked to ensure the safety of Iowa's residents and water. He also worked as a health inspector for Polk County and managed the Public Health Departments in Jackson and Jones counties. Dan was active in the Iowa Environmental Health Association, serving as president in 2002-2003.

Dan loved rock 'n roll, the Iowa State Cyclones, the St. Louis Cardinals, good food and time spent in the company of family and friends. He was an able chef; a man of strong opinions and intelligence. He lived and died on his own terms. He left the world a better place than he found it. Many are blessed by having known him.
