Bette Irene Wheeler, 91 of Ankeny, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at Taylor House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, August 13, 2019, at Ankeny Church of the Brethren 417 SE Grant St., in Ankeny with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Ankeny Church of the Brethren on Monday August 12, 2019 from 5-7:00 p.m.
Irene was born November 24, 1927 in Madrid, Iowa. To the parents of Arthur and Ruby Frise Frisk. She graduated from Elkhart high school in 1945. She was united in marriage to Robert B. Wheeler on January 17, 1953 in Ankeny, Iowa. She lived the rest of her life in Ankeny. She was a member of Ankeny Church of the Brethren, where she was an organist and pianist for the church. She enjoyed helping other people and putting others first. She also enjoyed traveling, especially back to Sweden where she took pride in her heritage.
Survivors include daughter Barbara Joslin of Texas; two sons, Brian (Dalma) Wheeler of Decatur, Georgia, Brad Wheeler of Ankeny; 7 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; one brother Dale Frisk of Ankeny; one sister Martha Stephenson of Henderson, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Ruby; her husband Robert; one daughter Beverly Burchett; great-granddaughter Lindsey Wheeler-Takahashi; three brothers Wayne, Marvin, Homer Frisk; and one sister Maxine Blair.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ankeny Church of the Brethren.
