William "Bill" Alexander, 89, of Ankeny passed away September 25, 2016.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held 5-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28, also at the funeral home.
Bill was born in Avoca, Iowa to Frank and Bertha (Garner) Alexander.
He graduated High School from Red Oak in 1944, and married Sherry Frank in December of 1950. They made their home above the fire station in Red Oak, where he served as assistant Fire Chief to his father in law.
They moved to Ankeny in 1963, where they raised their two children. Bill went to work for Firestone as a Guard, until he retired in 1987 to care for his wife Sherry, until her passing in 1988.
Bill was a member of the Ankeny ELKS, and the National Fire Fighters Association.
He enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Bill is survived by his 2 children, Deborah (Harold) Wissink, and Mark "Butch" (Peggy) Alexander; 2 grandchildren, Tara (Jesse) Berstler, Jon (Kelli) Alexander; 4 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Madison, Chantz, and Allison, and 1 great-great grandson Liam; and his partner of 25 years, Earlene Ware.
He is preceded in death by his wife Sherry, grandson Sean Wissink, and great-grandson Connor Alexander.
