Terry Lee Welch, 68, of Polk City died April 18, 2017 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 26th at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd). A visitation will be held 5 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25th, also at the funeral home.
Terry was born April 25, 1948 to Almon and Dorothy Welch, 1 of 5 children.
He graduated from Saydel High School in 1966, and went on to serve with the US Navy from 1966 to 1970. He worked for Firestone for 41 years, until his retirement. While there, he became a believer in Christ in 1977. He first attended First Federated Church in Des Moines and later became a member of Sovereign Grace Church. He was married to Barbara Longnecker on March 20, 1982.
Terry liked talking about theology, politics, history, and current events. He was an avid reader. He also enjoyed getting together with friends for Bible Study, lunch, and conversation. Throughout his life he enjoyed having a dog in the home as a pet. In later years, he watched Iowa and Iowa State basketball as well as golf.
Terry is survived by his wife Barbara; children, Lori (Adam) Kaup of Boone, Lisa Spratt of Elkhart, and Steven (Christina) Fuller of Chariton; 7 grandchildren; Siblings, Gerry Welch of Grimes, Cindy (James) Dacus of Ankeny, and Randy (Jayne) Welch of Urbandale; 4 nieces, 2 nephews, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Garvin (Gil) Welch.
Terry had a long struggle with cancer, but praise God he has now entered his "Real" home with his Saviour. His address is HEAVEN, on the street of gold.
