Gary "Mike" Zelinsky, 67 of Des Moines passed away peacefully surrounded by family Monday October 16, 2017.
A celebration of life will be held Monday October 23rd, 2017 from 4-7pm at The VFW Post 9662, 1309 N.E. 66th Ave. Des Moines.
Mike was born October 7, 1950 in Indianola to Bernard and Beverly Zelinsky. He attended Lincoln High School and Northeast Missouri State.
Mike worked in the car business most of his life. First at several car dealerships then owning his own car lot, Grand Auto until 1985 when he moved to Maui, Hawaii.
He returned to Des Moines in 1990 and started his own wholesale car business.
He was an avid boater and motorcycle rider/enthusiast. He loved going to Sturgis in August, and thoroughly enjoyed collecting old Willey Jeeps. He loved any kind of car races; Knoxville sprint cars, NASCAR, and even motorcycle racing.
Mike always had, and loved his Labradors.
Most of all he cherished his children. They were his pride and joy. He coached little league and attended many baseball games, football games, dance recitals, and track meets. He also loved to travel with his kids, especially to Maui and Mexico.
He is survived by his children Ross and Zoe Zelinsky along with their Mother, Kelly Zelinsky (Ankeny); his parents Bernard and Beverly Zelinsky (Carlisle); brother Todd Zelinsky (Tulsa, Ok); many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and his beloved chocolate lab, Pooh Bear.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and sister, Katherine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.
