On Tuesday, November 15, 2016, Michael Dean Lange of Des Moines died at Taylor House Hospice of respiratory complications. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
Mike (Bubba) Lange was born and lived in Des Moines and West Des Moines for most of his life. At Dowling High School, he was a standout athlete in football, baseball, and wrestling. Following graduation, he was a resident in Atlanta, Georgia, where he attended college and worked until returning to his home in the early nineties. Throughout much of his adult life, he participated in softball on various teams and got to know many with similar interests. Michael always took pride in the relationships he built that began in WDM Little League, lasted throughout high school, and continued into adult sporting activities until becoming disabled due to amputation. Even then, he was an avid sports fan and remained current with scores and sporting news for his favorite teams, as well as those of others.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly Lange, who was his constant and faithful caregiver through the years of his illnesses and by his parents, Joan Roper of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dean Lange of Ft. Walton, Florida. He was loved by his 4 – legged companions, Gizmo and Bruno, who were bedside buddies throughout his illness.
The family would like to thank all caregivers at multiple hospitals, home health nursing, and Taylor House.
