Marilyn Yager Benna, 83, of Ankeny closed her eyes and went on her last journey to the gates of heaven on Monday, December 5, 2016.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (517 S.W. Des Moines St., Ankeny, IA). A visitation will be held 5 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 8th, also at the church.
Marilyn was born May 9, 1933 to Gifford and Helen Yager in Carroll, Iowa, one of six children. Marilyn grew up and graduated from Viola Center School. She went on to study education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa.
She met her husband Leon in Alta, Iowa and they were married June 10, 1956.
Marilyn took a job as a school teacher in Alta, and later in Mayville, North Dakota for many years. She and Leon had two children; Nancy and Kyle. After their arrival, Marilyn became a stay-at-home Mom.
She enjoyed garage sales, bargain hunting, and spending time with her family.
Marilyn will be greatly missed by her children, Nancy (Jacques) Ducray of Mauritius, and Kyle (Jennifer) Benna of Ankeny; grandchildren, Alex Ducray, Marc Ducray, Luke Benna, and Peri Benna; sister Evonne Schaaf of Des Moines, brothers Charles Yager, Jerry Yager, and Delmar Yager, all of Coon Rapids, and many beloved family and friends.
The family extends extreme gratitude to all the doctors and caregivers who have taken such excellent care of Marilyn over the years.
