Roma Marilyn Kelley, 86, passed away on December 31, 2019 at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines. She was born October 30, 1933 to Bernard and Roma (Blakely) Kelley. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 E. 1st Street, Ankeny, IA . Visitation will start two hours prior.

Marilyn grew up in Chariton, Iowa and attended high school there. She decided to devote herself to the Lord and entered the convent as Sister of Humility in 1952. She attended Ottumwa Heights Junior College for a few years before graduating from Mary Crest College in Ottumwa in 1961. Marilyn received a Masters of Education degree from Drake University and became a teacher at Sacred Heart in West Des Moines. She later became principal of St. Pius in Des Moines. In 1972, Marilyn left the convent and taught for Ankeny Public Schools fifth and sixth grade for 24 years.

Marilyn's true love in life was her Savior, and she was a devoted member of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church, and directed the Regina Coeli Choir for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed knitting, especially knitting afghans for babies.

Left to cherish Marilyn's memory are many loving nieces and nephews. Preceding Marilyn in death are her parents and four brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in loving memory of Marilyn.
