Jan was born March 31, 1937, in Kingsley, Iowa. She graduated from Kingsley, Iowa in 1955 and then went on to beauty school. She enjoyed scouting garage sales, collecting beanie babies and trading cards with her grandkids when they were younger. She also crocheted and after retirement she began quilting. She has quilted well over 100 quilts in the last 20 years.

Jan was known for baking pies and had the "best" rhubarb pie or apple, peach, cherry or chocolate. Her pie crust was the "best".
