Erik Matthew Thompson, 45, of Ankeny, died Thursday July 20, 2017, at Nebraska Medical
Center.
A visitation will be Tuesday July 25 from 4-7 pm at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, Christian Life Center, 710 NE 36th St .Ankeny, IA.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday July 26 also at the church.
Erik was born July 26, 1971 at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Roger and Denice Thompson. His family relocated to Rapid City, SD, where he graduated from high school. He attended Iowa State University graduating with a degree in Management of Information Systems. Throughout his career, he worked his way to management positions, most recently at Telligen.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Kragenbrink on December 31, 1994 in Northwood, IA.This union was blessed with 2 children; Jacob Allan born January 5, 1998, and Mikayla Renee on July 28, 2000.

Erik enjoyed soccer, raquetball, Iowa State Cyclones, fishing, camping, pool, playing cards, and most of all spending time on the water with extended family and friends. We rejoice in knowing he found peace and comfort during his illness at his home with Kathryn on Sun Valley Lake.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the transplant team and medical staff at Nebraska Medical Center for the wonderful care given to Erik during his illness. We are indebted to the organdonor who provided Erik with another 17 months of life.

He is survived by his wife Kathryn; children Jacob and Mikayla; parents Roger and Denice Thompson of Rapid City, SD; sister Rachel Anderson (husband Bryan and children Joseph, Benjamin, Hannah, and Zachary) of George, IA; brother-in-law David Kragenbrink (wife Lisa and children Kaelene and husband Kenneth, Karin, and Kent) of Dubuque, IA; brother-in-law Michael Kragenbrink (wife Suzette and children Calvin, Mitchell, and Jack) of Mount Vernon, IA; sister-in-law Renee Nydegger (husband Loren and children Anna, Ben, and Clare) of Mount Vernon, IA; and step-mother-in-law Carol Kragenbrink of Northwood, IA.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law William "Bud", and mother-in-law Kay Kragenbrink; grandparents Wilfred and Inez Thompson, and grandparents Chester and Ilith Ingebretson.
