Daniel T. Kavadas, 78, of Ankeny passed away October 24, 2016.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Ankeny First United Methodist Church (206 S.W. Walnut, Ankeny). A visitation will be held 5 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd).
Dan was born August 31, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa to Thomas and Josephine (Sophia) Kavadas.
He graduated from Clinton High School in 1956, and then joined the US Navy for 2 years. He then returned to attend Clinton Community College where he obtained a degree.
He moved to Des Moines in 1963, where he went to work for Bankers Life (Principal) for 37 years. He began his career working as a night computer operator and retired as an officer in the IT department in 2001.
In 1965 he married Carol M. Cummings. They made their home in Des Moines until 1978, when they moved to Ankeny where they raised their 3 daughters.
Dan was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, an avid Iowa Hawkeye, and enjoyed travel, especially with the Principal retirees. He and Carol attended several Road Scholar Programs and were members of the Ray Society at Drake University.
He was a member of the AFUMC, a volunteer for 15 years at Findley School, and a volunteer for many organizations throughout his life.
His greatest accomplishment was his family.
Dan is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughters Kristina Kavadas(Tim McCombs), Amy (Paul) Gates, and Susanna (Billy) Harding; 10 grandchildren, Nick, Skylar, Cade, Camden McCombs, Celia Mathieu, Sophia, Thomas Gates, GiGi, Vaughn, Vinny Harding; 2 sisters, Bernice Goddard and Georgia (Robert) Knutson, a brother Tommy (Vivian) Kavadas all from Clinton; a brother in law, Gary (Carol)Cummings of Shellsburg, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathryn Gensch.
