Heart Emblem

Charlotte Joyce (Hale) Green was 91 years old when she left us to join her ancestors on December 24th, 2016 while living at Vintage Hills memory unit for nearly four years. She was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the only child of Ralph and Mary (Shipman) Hale. After high school, she attended beauty school in Des Moines. Always a fashionista, she became manager of many women's clothing stores such as Seifert's in Oskaloosa, Feldman's at Merle Hay Mall and Ardan's in Des Moines. Charlotte had a weakness for diamond rings and dressing up to go to supper clubs and piano bars.
Her first husband, Millard Bennett, was the father to her only child, Marcia Guffey (George Rieck). In the 1950's, she briefly married Cloid Gatton Jr., owner of the Platime Supper Club in Rose Hill, Iowa. Finally, she married Charles Green and embraced his three children: David, Beth and Dan. She and Chuck owned rental properties in Oskaloosa as D.I.Y. projects and they owned the Boat Harbor Marina on Lake Mille Lacs, in Garrison, Minnesota. They traveled to China, Europe, Russia, etc., and became Florida snowbirds. They were together until Chuck's death in 2014.
Being there for her family ruled Char's life. Just as her parents always took care of her, she always took care of her family. The Sunday family dinner was a tradition passed to each generation. Angela Guffey Luttenegger (Greg) is her only grandchild and she was blessed with two great grandchildren, Kaylen (18) and Carson (16).
A private, family graveside service will take place at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa at a later date. Kindly send any memorials to Keo-Mah Genealogical Society, 209 A Ave East, Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577.
