Police Emblem

Barbara Jane Dennis, 81, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, was reunited with her husband of 41 years, Roland Alfred Dennis, on November 4, 2020.

Barbara was born February 10, 1939 to Rosetta Violet and Walter Irving Armstrong in Des Moines, Iowa.

Barbara attended and graduated from Des Moines East then went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force as well as the Iowa Army National Guard.

Barbara was most proud of her career as a Police Officer (Badge 252) with the Des Moines Police Department. Barbara was the first female to attend the Des Moines Police Academy. Barbara first served as a Matron before becoming a Uniformed Officer, Senior Police Officer, and finally Plain Clothes Detective. She retired in 1991 after 23 years of service. When Barbara wasn't working she loved to spend time with her family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Judy (Doug) Keller, and Carla (Dwayne) Heckman; grandchildren, Nicolas (Heather) Belieu, Stephanie Belieu, Abigail (Holly) Keller, and Matt (Bobbie) Dennis; great-grandchildren, Ashtin (Kaylea) Underwood, Stella Belieu, Jameson Belieu, and Dawson Keller; great-great-granddaughter, Paisley Underwood; uncle, Frank (Donna Marie) Armstrong; and Barbara's best friend in the whole world and sister-in-blue, Sandy Parisho.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Dennis; and her parents.

Per her wishes, no memorial service is planned. Barbara and Roland's ashes will be scattered together on Lake Superior at Grand Marais, Minnesota in the spring. Grand Marais was a vacation spot they deeply loved and visited many times.
