Tribute & Message From The Family

April Lynn Friesner, 39, of Ankeny, IA passed away on Monday, December 28, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA after a courageous five-year battle with breast cancer. Her sudden passing has left her family and friends heartbroken. April could light up any room she entered and was loved by many.

April was born on April 2, 1981, in Des Moines, IA. She grew up in Ankeny, IA with her family and graduated from Ankeny High School in 1999. In 2001 she moved to Savanna, IL where she would spend the next 18 years before moving back to Ankeny, IA in 2019. Before learning of the return of her cancer in 2019, April was pursuing a degree in Nursing.

April will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Amber Daniels (Dave Williams); nieces, Aliyah Friesner, Taryn Daniels, and Brieya Daniels; boyfriend, Matt Looney; her cherished dog, Bella and cat, Salem; as well as many other extended family and friends. April is greeted in heaven by her mom, Danell McDonnell-Friesner; brother, Dustin Friesner; grandparents, Thomas McDonnell, Theodore "Ted" and Phyllis Friesner; aunt, Darcy McDonnell; and great grandparents, Vincent "Vince" and Alice Gaffey.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2021, from 12-2 p.m. at Ankeny Memorial Funeral Home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.) A graveside service will follow visitation at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. Due to COVID 19 regulations, masks are required to attend the indoor visitation.

I lost My Wife to breast Cancer in 2017 and my Brother Chet had been Friends with April for many years.. and while she was Battling it.. My Wife Was Diagnosed with it and passed away much Sooner.. Lydia my wife and April had met and discussed it I'm Sure.. April was a great person to be around and so full of energy I know my Brother will miss her Deeply as we all will... Shawn, Matthew, Shannan, and Benjamin.. My deepest Sympathy to all her Family.. it is very Hard.. I know..

We remember in infancy, Dannell holding April in the palm of one hand. April has grown into a strong young woman who will always be remembered for her courage, her smile and her bright personality. We will miss her so much.

April was one of the best people I’ve ever met. She would’ve given you the shirt off her back if you needed it. She was such a fighter and wasn’t supposed to lose this battle. I will forever remember the fun times and the difference she made in this world just by being her. so sorry she’s gone.
