Tribute & Message From The Family

Marie L. Yori, age 97, of Crystal Lake, IL, passed away on November 23, 2020 at Valley Hi Nursing and Rehab in Woodstock, IL.

She was born on May 6, 1923 in Willisville, Illinois, the daughter to Anna Holmes.

Marie grew up on a farm in Southern Illinois. When she was a teenager, she moved to Highwood, Illinois where she later met her husband, Fernando "Dusty" Yori, After getting married, they moved to Ankeny, Iowa to be close to Dusty's family. Several years later, they then moved to Oak Park, Illinois where Marie resumed her role as a wife and mother to her children along with babysitting for relatives in the area when asked. She also worked for the Village of Oak Park for 28 years as a member of the Oak Park Police, Women's Police Division, and later as a Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Courts. She and her husband moved to McHenry, Illinois after her retirement from the Village of Oak Park.

Marie was known for her quick wit and sassiness. She enjoyed crafting which included sewing, crocheting, quilting, ceramics, and gardening. She was also an avid cook and would spend hours preparing lavish Italian meals for the extended family. Marie will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who all affectionately called her either "Gram" or "GG", and all of the extended family and friends who knew her. Her life's story is a tribute to her tenacity and the awesome woman that she was.

Marie is survived by her children, Ronald (Lynda) Yori and Donna (John) Podkowa; as well as her 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, of 70 years, Fernando "Dusty" Yori and her mother Anna Holmes.

Marie will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Ankeny Memorial Gardens in Ankeny Iowa on December 5, 2020. The family is planning a Celebration of Marie's Life sometime next year.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations if desired may be directed to Valley Hi Nursing and Rehab, Woodstock, Illinois or Journey Care Hospice.
