Condolence & Memory Journal

Kirby, I am so very sorry for your loss. I have tried to locate you but have been unable to. I hope you or one of your kids see this. Once again I'm so very sorry for your loss. I too will miss her greatly.

Another point in the year, Sandy surprised me by taking me out of the facility to go to a fashion show at Iowa State. Her generosity and thoughtfulness blew me away at the time, but now I can only think of what she would have had to have gone through to get that approved. It's truly one of the most profound acts of kindness I've ever experienced. She shaped not only my confidence in myself and my self-expression, she also inspired me to grow up trying to see people the way she did, and to approach people with the same level of kindness. She was there for me in ways I never even understood, and she had SUCH a massive impact on my life and who I grew up to be. My heart is broken that I was a little too late in trying to let her know that.

When the school year ended, it was also my final day in the facility and was returned to my parents. I went around the school with a disposable camera, red faced, tears in my eyes, and took photos of everyone I wanted to remember (but hilariously, wrote down ZERO names). The photo I took with her that day, she's wearing a bright red vest and has a giant, vibrant red flower in her hair. It makes me smile to learn that was something she was known for. Looking at that photo, I see I also have a big red bow in my hair. I'm so thankful she saw me and took me under her wing. She taught me there would always been good people out there no matter how bad the world gets.

To her family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Her heart lives on with that weirdo kid that grew into someone vibrant, and creative, and confident thanks to her care.

Sandy, thank you for everything, may you rest in peace.

To Kirby, Lenen, and the Brier Family,
I am heartbroken to hear of your loss. I have so many fond memories with her as well as the rest of your family. I will always remember the boating outings with your family and Sandy's impeccable ability to bring people together. I know there are no words that can help with your heartache, but I am sending you all of my love.

Kirby and Family, we are so saddened to see that Sandy has passed away. We have such good memories of sharing boat rides on Saylorville Lake and other fun times with both of you. Sandy was such a joy to be around, and we're sorry that her ALS has taken her. Hugs to all of you whom she is leaving behind. Bob and Linda Moore

Kirby, Tanner, Lenen, Ryal and all the family, my heart aches for you with the loss of your wife and mother. Sandy was always filled with life and spirit. She was very creative and talented, and I hear in my head her distinctive voice and laugh. I have always been grateful for her friendship as she was one of the first to reach out to me as a new student at VCHS my senior year. I hold her always in my heart. Cherish her memory.

Kerby - I am so sorry to hear that Sandy passed away. She was a dear sister-in-law. I know how devoted she was a parent to Lenen, Tanner, and Ryal and how dedicated she was to being the best parent she could be.
I know your loss will be great and hopefully the good memories of your life together will help you realize how lucky you were to have her in your life.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Love, Cathy
