Tribute & Message From The Family

Dale Keith Sawhill Sr. passed away peacefully on September 9, 2020 at MercyOne Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.

He was born on December 23, 1938 at his family home in Podunk Center, IA (yes, it is a place). May 20, 1967, he married the love of his life Sally Kay Johnson. Dale was hard-working man who put in 37 years at Armstrong Tires. After retirement, he and Sally enjoyed time of refreshment at their home in Casa Grande, AZ.

His pastimes included watching Nascar, messing with model trains, and testing his patience at jigsaw puzzles. Sweet Dale never passed up a dish of ice cream, and he treated the one she loved with his own homemade version. Dale will be remembered for his kind, gentle and loving spirit.

He is survived by the love of his life Sally and their children; Robbin (Mike) Turner of Bentonville, AR; Dale "Keith" Sawhill of Omaha, NE and Jeff (Erin Sawhill) of Ankeny, IA. His great joys include his grandchildren, Zach (Beth), Barrett, & Chase Beeler; and Danny, Gabby, Dakota, & Brynna Kay Sawhill; and great grandchildren.

The family will greet visitors, Tuesday, September 15, 2020 from 1-2 pm at Ankeny Memorial Gardens (4208 N Ankeny Blvd) with a memorial service to held immediately following at 2 p.m.

Those wishing to send cards with their favorite memory of Dale may be sent to Memorial Services of Iowa 4208 N Ankeny Blvd. Ankeny, Iowa 50023 and they will be given to the family of Dale.

It seems Dale was very well known for his homemade ice cream. Dale always made ice cream for about 30 of his winter family in AZ., just before we all left for our summer homes. His recipe and his tradition live on with the people that bought their AZ home. He was a great man and will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dale was just a sweet man that made the best homemade ice cream. Prayers to all of Dale's family.
