Tribute & Message From The Family

Jason L. Johnson, 42, of Elkhart, IA passed away on August 12, 2020 following a courageous year long battle against the terminal brain cancer Glioblastoma Multiforme. A visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. September 12, 2020, at Ankeny Memorial Funeral Home (4208 N Ankeny Blvd. Ankeny). A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Jason was born in Decorah, IA on February 3, 1978 to Mike and Wanda (Ehler) Johnson. He spent much of his childhood in Polk City, IA where he graduated from North Polk High School in 1996. He'd always had a knack for tearing apart and (mostly) fixing things as a kid so it made sense, he became a diesel mechanic. He was a highly esteemed part of the team at Vander Haag's in Des Moines for over 16 years.

Jason married Lindsay Russell of Ankeny, IA on April 3, 2014 in Mexico. They enjoyed walks down country roads, traveling, and almost everything outdoorsy. Lindsay brought so much fun, laughter, and love into Jason's life. They didn't have it all, but together, they had everything. He loved his sidekick pup, Max and rarely tolerated the many cats that would come to make his shop their new home.

Jason was perfectly happy hanging out in his shop but preferred lying on a beach in Mexico. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs, and believes they won the Super Bowl just for him in 2020. Jason also loved hunting and fishing. He mostly loved mowing his yard, and all the general horseplay that goes along with country living.

Jason was known for his sense of humor, his curious nature, and his mischievous grin. He'd most likely downplay it, but he is deeply missed by so many. Jason started off life with a large extended family but gained an even bigger one in the friends he surrounded himself with.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Lindsay Johnson; his parents, Mike and Wanda Johnson; his sisters, Krista (Russ) Wiseman and Caitlin (Nick) Wethington; his adored nieces, Courtney, Teagan, and Amrynn Wiseman; as well as other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Myron and Lindy Johnson and Bernie and Signe Ehler, as well as nephew Brendon Wiseman, and many other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, donations may be made to the family of Jason (Lindsay Johnson) at Grinnell State Bank; while a foundation for GBM is being created in his honor.
