Tribute & Message From The Family

Myron James Houghton, 78, entered the glorious presence of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday morning, July 14, 2020 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa, due to complications connected with COVID-19. His funeral service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Ankeny Baptist Church 2842 SW 3rd St. Ankeny). Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2020 also at Ankeny Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are being made by Ankeny Memorial Services of Iowa. Myron will be buried in Schenectady, New York.

Born and raised in Schenectady, New York, to William and Louise Houghton, Myron's relationship with Christ began at the age of nine. After attending a local Bible club, he trusted in Christ's death and resurrection for salvation from sin. He grew in His love for the Lord as a young teen. After dedicating his life to the Lord, he began his Bible training at Moody Bible Institute, where he discovered a special interest in Systematic Theology and decided to pursue further education. That pursuit led to a long list of degrees, including B.A., Pillsbury College; B.D., Grand Rapids Baptist Theological Seminary; Th.M., Grace Theological Seminary; Ph.D., Dallas Theological Seminary; M.L.A., Southern Methodist University; M.A., St. Thomas Theological Seminary; Th.D., Concordia Seminary; and finally an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Central Baptist Theological Seminary.
His education was not an end in itself. Rather, "Dr. Myron" was passionate about giving students a comprehensive understanding of Scripture that led to spiritual maturity. He labored diligently to deliver clear and accurate teaching while also modeling the truths of Scripture in his own relationship with God. He began his teaching career at Denver Baptist Bible College (1971-1983) and finished his teaching career at Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary (1983-2019), where he served as the chairman of the Theology Department. He loved books, reading, words, and especially puns – which also served to keep his classroom lectures engaging and lighthearted. More than that, he loved people and sought out personal connections with students, colleagues, friends, and acquaintances - often treating them to a meal at a local restaurant. His students remember his quick wit, endearing sense of humor, passion for a clear and accurate understanding of the Bible, and a deep love for the Lord. It is hard to fathom the number of lives and ministries the Lord shaped through the life and teaching of Dr. Houghton.
Myron is survived by his twin brother George (Karen) and their children Rebekah and James, and his sister Ginger.
Memorials can be donated to Ankeny Baptist Church (2842 SW 3rd St Pl, Ankeny, IA 50023) or Faith Baptist Theological Seminary (1900 NW 4th Street, Ankeny, IA, 50021) where there is a scholarship in his name. While he will be missed dearly, we rejoice that his faith - and theology - have become sight in the presence of his Savior.
