Tribute & Message From The Family

Irene Joanne Collins, 78, of Ankeny, IA went home to her Lord on January 5, 2020 after a brief stay at Levine Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina.
Irene was born April 18, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa to Joan and Albert Boyle. She grew up on the family farm with her brothers and sisters, where she learned the values of strong family unity and hard work. She graduated from Westfield High School Valedictorian of her class and went on to further her education at Morningside College.

While on college break, Irene met and later married Robert "Bob" Collins on February 8, 1964. They made their home in Ankeny, where they made a loving and inviting home for their boys, Scott, Christopher, and Ryan.

Irene began her family life as a stay-at-home mom, lovingly caring for her boys. She later worked as a bookkeeper for 20 years at Enterprise Grain Elevator as well as many odd jobs throughout her life. After retiring, she and Bob spent countless hours visiting and volunteering at area nursing homes with their therapy dog and companion, Baxter. While living in Mooresville, NC, Irene volunteered at the Christian Mission and Meals on Wheels.

Irene's kind heart and compassion were felt by anyone who knew her – many describing her as saintly. Irene was also a strong fighter, courageously surviving multiple battles with cancer. Though nothing kept her from continuously defending the weak and disadvantaged. Her strong faith enabled her to live the way our savior Jesus Christ taught her.

Irene is survived by her children, Scott (Inna) of Mooresville, NC and Ryan (Michelle) of Casper, WY; grandchildren, Ender, Nicholas, Jared, Jordan, and Anastasia; siblings, Mary, Pauline, Jacqueline, William, Patrick, and John; and many loved nieces and nephews and friends. Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Joanne; husband, Bob; son, Chris; and infant brother, Donald.

Irene will be remembered by the many people she impacted with her kindness and compassion. She leaves a legacy of abounding love that will be passed through her children, grandchildren, family and friends.
