I have fond memories of being neighbors for many years with Earl, Jan and Jeff on Park View Drive. The annual block party was fun to plan, set up and host in our driveways. Of course the next day was spent returning serving spoons, tables, chairs etc to everyone on the block.
Our boys enjoyed many backyard adventures through their childhoods - no one needed a "play date" invitation! Earl was not only a neighbor and friend, but an important influence as teacher and coach to Steve and many years of Ankeny students. I'm glad our neighborhood boys stay in touch with each other to this day. Life was good on Park View Dr - The Leonards were an important part of that experience.

Prayers to the Leonard family. Earl was one of my favorite teachers and coaches. He had a great sense of humor. Remember time in 9th grade I got dinged up in football game and came back over to sideline and he offered me a tums. Saying it would take care of my injury.
God bless

Jan, so sorry to hear of Earl's passing. He was very special, and I especially loved his sense of humor. Growing up across the street from you and Earl gave me lots of special memories. Earl and you, and my parents (Bill & Cleo Stubbe) were the kind of neighbors that would do anything for each other, and then the fact that Earl and mom taught together only cemented the relationship more. My sister, Laurie Mathis, and I are deeply sorry for your lose but because of your faith you know he will have everlasting life. God Bless you and Jeff.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Janet and family. I loved working with Earl at Ankeny High School. His wry sense of humor and ability to easy going manner put staff and students at ease. He didn't take himself too seriously, but he always took teaching seriously. He was a gift to all who knew him.
