Tribute & Message From The Family

Scott Douglas Porter, 72, of Ankeny, Iowa entered eternal life on October 28, 2019 in Ankeny. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2019 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E 1st St. Ankeny). A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 31, 2019 also at the church.
Scott was born in Elgin, Illinois on October 1, 1947 to Melvin and Lois (Nessler) Porter. He entered eternal life on October 28, 2019 in Ankeny.
He loved growing up in his adventurous family with sister Barbara Head (Michael), Greg Porter (Barb), and Marc Porter (Mary). He often told stories larger than life of his childhood summer camping trips to Washington, Alaska, and Canada. Pride radiated when he spoke of his Mother and Father. His Mother was an amazing homemaker who would bake his vitamins into cakes as this was all he would eat. His Dad was in the US Marines and served in the Korean War; he was also an actor in Hollywood appearing in Western movies. Scott loved watching these movies and finding his Dad.
While growing up in Elgin, he became an Eagle Scout and attended Catholic School at St. Edwards. He became a Colorado Buffalo in College. Scott met Cindy, his beloved wife of 45 years in February of 1974 in Denver, Colorado. They were engaged two months later and married in August of 1974. He admired Cindy for all of her kindness and patience. Scott and Cindy were blessed with three children. Megan Mary came along in 1976. Andrew Scott Thomas came in 1978. The grand finale arrived in 1983, with Katelyn Bea. Scott was a wonderful Father and loved hiking Bear Lake with his family and spending time in Estes Park.
In 1986 the Porter Family moved to Iowa and Scott quickly became a loyal Hawkeye fan. He loved attending his children's sporting events and enjoying a good movie with a big tub of popcorn. In 2002, his first Grandchild was born, and this was the beginning of his greatest era. He had 13 Grandchildren. He loved taking them fishing and boating, going to Adventureland, visiting them and watching them play sports. His Grandchildren are Lily and Porter Cook (Megan Mary of Johns Creek, Georgia); Addyson, Luke, Isabella, Jude, Clare, Ava, Magdalene, and Katie Jo (Andrew and Mandy Porter of Wichita, Kansas); Avery, Cora, and Logan Scott (Katelyn and Mark Pniak of Rockford, Illinois).
Scott was a CPA, CFO, and Co-President. He finished his career with Mechdyne where he retired but never said goodbye to his friends and co-workers in Marshalltown, Iowa.
He was able to balance being a good Husband and Father with a successful career. He truly emulated that being good at one can make you better at the other. With a life full of amazing love and blessings if you asked Scott what was most important to him, he would most definitely say, his Faith in Jesus. Jesus Christ was the center of Scott's life and we know that he is in His loving arms now.
