Gary Myrl Borts, age 76, of Alleman died on August 11, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. A Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, August 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Services of Iowa (4208 North Ankeny Blvd). There will be a time to gather with friends and family from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Memorial Services of Iowa. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman following the memorial service on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. Burial will be at a later date.

Gary was born December 12, 1942, to William Wesley Borts and Doris Brown Borts. He grew up in the Collins area and attended Collins High School. He was a pitcher for the baseball team, played basketball and participated in many other activities. He graduated in 1960 at the age of 17.

After high school, Gary worked for a local lumber company driving a cement truck. When he turned 18, he went to work at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company in Des Moines where he was employed for nearly 28 years. He was forced to retire in 1988 after he and Judy were in a serious automobile accident.

In 1965, while scooping the loop, he met his future wife Judy Rae Cory. Gary enjoyed playing pool, cards, and bowling. Together they enjoyed spending time with Judy's parents (Homer and Cloma Cory).

Judy and Gary were united in marriage on May 11th, 1968, and recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. After getting married they bought a house in Bondurant and lived there for 8 years. After the passing of Judy's parents, they moved into Judy's childhood home in Alleman and have lived there for 43 years.

To this union was born two daughters. Brenda Rae was born in 1972 and Bernita Gwen in 1974. Gary enjoyed coaching the girls' softball teams and attending all their events. He made many good friends attending North Polk activities, bowling, and playing cards. When not attending the girls many events you could find him in front of the tv cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes or the Atlanta Braves. He was an avid fan to both.

Gary served on the Alleman City Council for 6 years and was also a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Alleman.

Most Sunday afternoons you could find him cruising in his 1981 Corvette.

During retirement, Gary kept busy babysitting his grandkids. He also enjoyed attending all their activities until recently when his health did not allow him to do this. His grandkids were his pride and joy and he spent countless hours with them. He basically let them do whatever they wanted to do.

Gary was a dog lover. Judy and Gary always had at least one, if not two, dogs. They were all spoiled rotten. The latest being a beagle named Buffy.

Gary will be remembered for his sense of humor. He always had a smile on his face. He was very much a family man and will be greatly missed.

Gary is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy. His daughters Brenda (Randy) Tallman of Ankeny and Bernita (David) Barr of Alleman. Six grandkids Nicholas, Christopher and Benjamin Dirksen, Jacob, Brandon, and Emily Barr. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his in-laws, and his grandparents.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family for a charity to be determined at a later date.
