Edward Patrick Reilly, known as "Ed" to friends and family, passed away on November 17, 2019, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after a brief illness. The family will greet friends Monday, November 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. during a Celebration of Life at Ankeny Memorial Gardens, 4208 N. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa.
Ed was born May 26, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, IA, to John and Jeannie Reilly. The family moved to Ankeny in 1978, where Ed graduated from Ankeny High School in 1982. Ed had several career opportunities after high school, but he loved sales positions most because they allowed him to meet and connect with people. Ed never met a stranger and had friends everywhere. He would lend a hand to anyone in need.
Ed had a big heart and a big sense of humor to match. Ed enjoyed pranking his parents and sisters when he was younger, and later pranking his wife, children, niece, nephews and grandchildren. His infectious laugh always gave away the joke.
On January 1, 2005, Ed married his soul mate Lynette (Ickes). Together, they built a life in Ankeny but decided that enough was enough when it came to Iowa snow and cold. They moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 2013, to start a new life adventure in warmer temperatures and to build their dream home.
While in Arkansas, Ed became an avid Arkansas Razorbacks fan and tried (unsuccessfully) to convert family members to support the team. Razorback shirts often showed up as gifts. Ed also enjoyed motorcycle riding and all types of cars. He had a curious nature and enjoyed learning how things work. He routinely took things apart but didn't always put them back together, leaving a learning opportunity for someone else.
Ed will be missed dearly by his wife Lynette (Fayetteville, AR); his parents, John and Jeannie Reilly; his sons Brandon (Jamie Navin) of Greenfield, and Patrick (Brianne) of Ankeny; and his daughter Mollie (Randall Keen) of Ankeny; his grandchildren Isabella and Madilyn Reilly, Tripp Keen, and Rylie Hood; his sisters Angie (Doug) Fletcher of Des Moines and Terri (Brad) Hastings of Amarillo, TX; his niece Amber Hastings (Stetson Wellborn); nephews Brian Hastings and Reilly Hastings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Tori's Angels, www.torisangels.org, a foundation for children with life threatening medical conditions.

We are keeping all of the Reilly family in our prayers. Ed was my cousin and I have many fond memories from family events when we were growing up. He had a big heart and would reach out and be supportive to friends and family. The last two years we have been in contact with each other more since our nephew has been playing football at Arkansas. I always enjoyed Ed's messages after our nephew had a good game. Sending hugs to Ed's family and will continue to pray for them.

I was so sad to hear of Ed's passing and immediately had some great memories of him in high school. His obituary is a perfect summary -- always smiling, laughing, wanting everyone around him to have a good time. And the pranking! Apparently a life-long passion! Hold tight to those memories.

May your husband, father's life be eternal through all of your hearts. Loss is so very hard to accept but know he will always be with you and I pray for your family to get through this time of sorrow.
I am a coworker of Mollie's and hope she knows I am here for her through her days to come.

Sending thoughts and prayers to the family of Ed Reilly, especially Brandon and his family. I know first hand that life is not always what we think and want it to be, but with friends and loved ones around we share the laughter, love and grief. Sending hugs to you all in this sad time and praying for you all to have a little less pain everyday.
