Joan M. Hewlett Obituary

Joan Hewlett, 89 of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away May 16th 2019, with her family by her side at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA.

Joan was raised on a farm in northwest Iowa. After graduating from Harris Lake Park High School in 1947, she received a two-year degree from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in 1949.

Joan married Donald B. Hewlett in 1949 who preceded her in death in1999. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, volunteering at Iowa Lutheran Hospital, joining TTT service sorority, traveling, walking her dog Max, cheering for the Hawkeyes and being with her family.

She is survived by her three children: Marcia Hewlett, Diane(Terry) Smittkamp, and Steve (Vicki) Hewlett; four grandchildren; Alison DeShaw Rowe, Matthew Vander Linden, Blake (Lindsey)Smittkamp Christopher Vander Linden plus 5 great grandchildren; Evelyn Rowe, Marian Rowe, Oliver Rowe, Nolan Smittkamp, and Margo Smittkamp.

At her request there will be no funeral service.
Interment will be at Ankeny Memorial Gardens in Ankeny, Iowa.
